DDactic vs Keysight BreakingPoint

Internet-distributed production DDoS resilience testing vs closed-lab network performance and security validation. Two very different problems, two different tools.

About Keysight BreakingPoint Cloud

Keysight Technologies (formerly Ixia) makes BreakingPoint, a network security and performance testing platform. BreakingPoint Cloud is their SaaS offering that brings the platform's capabilities to cloud-hosted test infrastructure. It is primarily used for validating network equipment, firewalls, load balancers, and security devices under simulated load - often in a pre-production or lab environment.

BreakingPoint's strength is application and protocol simulation at scale for validating that specific devices or configurations perform correctly. It was not designed for black-box production resilience testing from the internet and does not include passive recon or CDN/WAF analysis. The two tools answer fundamentally different questions: BreakingPoint answers "does my firewall handle 10Gbps correctly?" while DDactic answers "is my live production infrastructure protected from real DDoS attacks?"

Where Keysight BreakingPoint Excels

Equipment and Device Validation

BreakingPoint is the industry standard for validating firewalls, load balancers, IPS devices, and network infrastructure under controlled load. If you're validating that a new device handles traffic correctly before deploying it, BreakingPoint is purpose-built for that.

Protocol and Application Simulation Depth

BreakingPoint has extremely deep protocol simulation capabilities and a large library of application traffic profiles. For organizations testing specific protocol handling, bandwidth capacity, or application-layer behavior at a device level, that depth is genuinely useful.

Pre-Production Testing

For organizations that need to test infrastructure before it goes live - staging environments, new network configurations, compliance validation before production deployment - BreakingPoint provides a safe, controlled environment.

Enterprise Security Testing Programs

Large enterprises with dedicated network testing teams and lab infrastructure use BreakingPoint as part of ongoing QA processes for network equipment. If you have this infrastructure, BreakingPoint plugs into it naturally.

DDactic Is the Right Choice If...

  • You want to know if your live production infrastructure will hold up under a real DDoS attack
  • You need to test from the internet - not from a lab or closed test environment
  • You want to discover your real attack surface before testing, not just validate what you already know
  • Your CDN or WAF might not be configured correctly, and you want to find out before attackers do
  • You need the traffic to come from real cloud provider ASNs, not synthetic test endpoints
  • You want actionable hardening steps for your production configuration, not device performance metrics

Test What Attackers See, Not What Your Lab Shows

DDactic tests your live production surface from the internet - the same way an attacker would approach it.
